The city of Perpignan (with a small airport served by low cost airline Ryanair), can be found in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the south of France. It’s just inland from the Mediterranean sea and enjoys close proximity to Spain and the Pyrenees. Costal towns north and south are well worth a visit, particularly Collioure in the south. It's perfect in September - the summer months can be heaving! If you’re into seafood, take a trip north to Grau de Leucate for a special oyster dégustation! You're in for a real treat, and don't forget a glass (or 2) of a deliciously cold PicPoul de Pinet 👌

As if all this wasn’t reason enough to visit this area, Perpignan is also the host of the International Festival Of Photojournalism: Visa Pour L’image. The festival takes place every year, traditionally starting the first week of September. Despite the current health crisis facing the world right now, the French state, the local region, Peripignan itself and all the teams involved have managed to adapt as necessary in order for the festival to go ahead 👏. Covid-19 safety measures are in place - masks are manadatory and social distancing required.
Visa Pour L’image

This festival is an important part of the calendar year in Perpignan. It showcases some of the best photojournalism from all over the world. It supports the dedicated and brave people who keep us up to date with the realities of life taking place in the world. Photojournalists play a crucial role in keeping us informed with news events, environmental issues and evolving crises such as endangered species. We see events happening all over the world as they happen. Photojournalists are often witnesses of dangerous and increasingly vile and violent situations in life, giving us all a little perspective. I remember one photojournalist from a past festival explained that the reason for doing this job was to take away the ignorance factor as an excuse given by others - no longer giving people a way out by saying "I didn't know"! The festival is able to show us true stories, human experiences, sacrifies, atrocities, and arguably most importantly of all today, showcasing freedom of information, expression and a respect for diversity.
This is a must see! We hope you get there but if not, there's always next years festival 👍
